Terms of Service

These terms govern access to the OpenFootAPI website, API, MCP server, dashboard, documentation, and paid services.

Effective and last updated: 7 September 2026

PrivacyTermsCookiesRefunds

1. Agreement and eligibility

By creating an account, obtaining an API key, purchasing a plan, or using the service, you agree to these terms and the policies linked from them. You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter this agreement. If you act for an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to bind it.

2. The service

OpenFootAPI provides developer tools and source-backed football data through REST endpoints, an MCP integration, documentation, dashboards, and optional data extracts. Coverage, source availability, freshness, and individual fields can vary by competition and provider. Features may be added, changed, suspended, or removed as upstream sources and the product evolve.

Unless a separate written agreement says otherwise, the service does not include a guaranteed service level, uninterrupted availability, or guaranteed availability of a particular match, metric, lineup, event, or competition.

3. Accounts and API keys

You are responsible for accurate account information, activity under your account, and keeping credentials and API keys confidential. Do not publish, resell, transfer, or share an API key outside your authorised team or application. Notify us promptly of suspected compromise; we may rotate, suspend, or revoke a key to protect the service.

4. Plans, quotas, and payments

Current prices, billing periods, quotas, and rate limits are shown on the pricing or checkout page. Usage is measured by our systems. Requests above the applicable quota or rate limit may be rejected, and unused quota does not roll over unless expressly stated.

Dodo Payments is the Merchant of Record for paid purchases. Dodo handles payment processing, invoices, applicable transaction taxes, refunds, and chargebacks under its buyer terms and privacy policy. Recurring subscriptions renew until cancelled. You can manage or cancel a subscription through the billing portal linked from your dashboard.

Cancellation and refund eligibility are described in our Refund and Cancellation Policy. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

5. Acceptable use

You may not use the service to:

  • break the law, infringe rights, or misrepresent the source or accuracy of data;
  • probe, bypass, disable, or interfere with authentication, quotas, security controls, or service infrastructure;
  • introduce malware, automate abusive traffic, overload the service, or access another user's account or key;
  • resell access credentials or present the service itself as your own without written permission;
  • use outputs as guaranteed facts where safety, financial loss, or regulated decisions depend on them.

Football information can be delayed, incomplete, corrected, or unavailable. It is not betting, financial, legal, or other professional advice.

6. Your applications and content

You are responsible for your integration, end-user notices, security, legal compliance, and decisions made from service outputs. Information you submit through support or forms remains yours, but you give us permission to use it as needed to answer the request and operate the service.

7. Data you receive: caching, retention, and attribution

We impose no maximum retention period on responses you receive. You may cache them, store the normalised fields, keep exact responses for contract testing, and keep derived aggregates, hashes, and audit records, for as long as you need them. Ending a subscription or terminating this agreement ends your access to the service; it does not require you to delete data you received while your access was valid, and we do not ask for deletion or destruction certificates. Our own retention of your account, usage, and billing records is covered by the Privacy Policy.

Internal use of data you have retained — statistical research, model training, evaluation, and validation — is permitted. Section 5 bars reselling access credentials and presenting the service as your own; it does not restrict internal research on data you lawfully received.

Access to a competition through the service is not a licence to redistribute the underlying provider's feed. Every response carries meta.sources, and every entry in /v1/competitions carries the licence that applies to that competition. Please carry that attribution through to anything you publish. Where a source licence imposes obligations of its own — attribution, share-alike, or a restriction on redistribution — those attach to your use directly, independently of these terms, and we cannot waive them on the source's behalf.

8. Intellectual property

We retain rights in the OpenFootAPI software, website, branding, documentation, and original materials. Third-party data, names, marks, and other materials remain subject to their owners' rights. Open-source components are governed by their applicable licences.

9. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the service at any time. We may limit, suspend, or terminate access for non-payment, abuse, security risk, legal requirements, or a material breach of these terms. Where reasonably possible, we will provide notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will remain effective.

10. Disclaimers and liability

To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We are not responsible for upstream-source outages, third-party services, or decisions made from football data.

To the extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or lost-profit damages. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded or limits mandatory consumer rights.

11. Changes, disputes, and contact

We may update these terms. Material changes will be identified by a new effective date and, where appropriate, an additional notice. Continued use after the change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

These terms are governed by the law applicable to the service operator, subject to any mandatory protections in your country. Before starting a formal dispute, please contact openfoot@pm.me so we can try to resolve it.
